Nuevas Medidas de Inmigración

Leo esta mañana la noticia de que Holanda ha hecho obligatoria la muestra de un video sobre el estilo de vida holandés como parte del examen de admisión para inmigrantes.

En el video, se ven cosas como una pareja homosexual besándose y una mujer en topless caminando por la playa. Supuestamente, el video muestra el carácter liberal del país y está diseñado para detractar a posibles inmigrantes con una mentalidad más conservadora... me pregunto yo a quién se referirán... Curiosamente, todos los ciudadanos de la UE y de países como EE.UU., Canadá, Japón, Australia, Nueva Zelanda, y Suiza no necesitan ver tal video.

A mí no me acaba de gustar la idea. Una sociedad libre acepta tanto a gente liberal como conservadora, siempre y cuando no sean peligrosos.

Yo también pienso que no hay que impedir la entrada a los que se escandalicen por ver a 2 gays besándose o chicas en top-less, estas cosas entran en el terreno de las creencias personales y ahí el Estado no tiene que intervenir, pero quizás sea bueno el mensaje de "si quieres vivir entre nosotros aceptanos como somos, y si quieres que las normas cambien porque no te gustan hazlo de manera pacífica y a través de nuestras instituciones democráticas, no haca falta recurrir a la violencia".

Comparto totalmente lo dicho por Teresa. Es imprescindible que los que decidan vivir con nosotros y entre nosotros acaten las leyes que nos hemos dado.

I think the video is only warning new citizens that these things are legal, acceptible and perhaps encouraged. Let's face it, doing any of those things in Syria would get one killed in the street. I hope they included something about freedom of press in there.

I see everyone's point of view -"they need to know what kind of culture they are getting into"- and I agree with that. The video could be concived to be like an intro to the country. But in my opinion it should be ok to be offended by some of the material shown. In addition, there is a censored tape for people from countries like Iran (and I am sure Syria is in there too), in which the original material is illegal, and therefore there are no homosexuals and no naked women...But that's a different point.

And to answer to your question Alex, yes, I would think the same thing if there were no homosexuality in the video. Look at the USA. Immigrants here are accepted and respected for who they are. The important issue is that they abide to the laws of this country. Dissenting from the norm is perfectly fine, whenever it is not violent. It's like that guy about the cartoons said: "In a democracy, we have the right to be offended".
